Embracing Resilience: The Themes Behind “Tears of Strength”
Exploring Resilience Through Art
In my piece Tears of Strength, I wanted to explore the concept of resilience, especially as it relates to the world of sports. The art piece was inspired by my own experiences in roller figure skating, where the journey is a balance of physical endurance and emotional strength. It’s about confronting challenges and embracing vulnerability in pursuit of greatness.
Inspiration from Canova’s Penitent Magdalene
The sculpture Penitent Magdalene by Antonio Canova, which evokes deep themes of repentance and strength, resonated with me and influenced the emotion I aimed to convey in this artwork. Canova’s mastery in bringing forth both pain and strength within a single expression encouraged me to portray a similar depth in Tears of Strength.

Art as a Form of Resilience
I believe that art as resilience plays a unique role in helping individuals process emotions and rebuild strength. Through Tears of Strength, I hope to provide viewers with an emotional experience, one that encourages them to see vulnerability not as weakness, but as a stepping stone to true resilience.
